چکیده

When two or more databases are combined into a global one, integrity may be violated even when each database is consistent with its own local integrity constraints. Efficient methods for checking global integrity in data integration systems are called for: answers to queries can then be trusted, because either the global database is known to be consistent or suitable actions have been taken to provide consistent views. The present work generalizes simplification techniques for integrity checking in traditional databases to the combined case. Knowledge of local consistency is employed, perhaps together with given a priori constraints on the combination, so that only a minimal number of tuples needs to be considered. Combination from scratch, integration of a new source, and absorption of local updates are dealt with for both the local-as-view and global-as-view approaches to data integration.

A Framework for Localizing Integrity Constraints Checking in Distributed Database

The validity, accuracy, and semantic of data are significant requirements in modern database applications. Semantic data in database is normally represented under the form of integrity constraints. Integrity constraints are properties, typically depending on the nature of the application domain, which must always be satisfied for the data to be considered consistent. Maintaining obedience of da...

Advanced Techniques for Efficient Data Integrity Checking

Integrity constraint checking, understood as the verification of data correctness and wellformedness conditions that must be satisfied in any state of a database, is not fully supported by current database technology. In a typical scenario, a database is required to comply with given semantic criteria (the integrity constraints) and to maintain the compliance each time data are updated. Since t...

Maintaining XML Data Integrity in Programs An Abstract Datatype Approach

In service-oriented loosely coupled distributed information systems, the format and semantics of the exchanged data become more and more important. We envisage that there will be an increasing number of general and domain-specific XML-based data formats for service-oriented computing. A typical example is a tax declaration form. If the schemas defining the formats specify structural and additio...

Simplification of a Petri Net controller in industrial systems

This paper deals with the problem of forbidden states in discrete event systems modeled by Petri Net. To avoid the forbidden states, some constraints which are called Generalized Mutual Exclusion Constraints can be assigned to them. Enforcing these constraints on the system can be performed using control places. However, when the number of these constraints is large, a large number of control p...

Integrity Constraint and Rule Maintenance in Temporal Deductive Knowledge Bases

The enforcement of semantic integrity constraints in data and knowledge bases constitutea a major performance bottleneck. Integrity constraint simplification methods aim at reducing the complexity of formula evaluation at run-time. This paper proposes such a simplification method for large and semantically rich knowledge bases. Structural, temporal and assertional knowledge in the form of deduc...
